Romul Nutiu

Romul Nutiu

Romul Nutiu is considered (rightly speaking), the painter who inaugurated the topic of the informal in the Romanian art.

In his laboratory, he experiments starting with the landscape, like many of his fellows, a validity of the visual discourse, which eliminates the figurative support in order to recover it later with more different signification and acceptance than those of the specular representation.

Starting with the 90s, Romul Nutiu integrates different objects into his picture - gloves, umbrellas, purses, caps, hats, etc. - appealing not only to their formal, textural and volumetric contribution, but especially to a certain affectively-evoking load, exactly that contribution of signification repudiated by the late modernism at the middle of the 20th century.

What assures his works a precious detail is the control of his pictorial spirit, which governs the whole visual material, and moderates the divergent tensions of concrete elements, obliged to a much greater degree to the statute they previously had.
